I remember the time I blew all the fuses in the building at AR after my cousin Tim Hardesty dared me to drop a penny on a partially opened microscope extension plug cord in biology class. Tim said, "Don't worry, it won't hurt anything. Go ahead."

So, I dropped the penny on the two prongs of the plug which promptly made a big electrical flash and then started smoking and then the lights in the whole school went out! The biology teacher's eyes almost popped completely out of his eye sockets when he saw that happen. The penny had welded itself to the plug.

Principal Abbott (no relation) gave me ten very hard licks for that one.

I wasn't called down to the principal's office until we had already transferred to our next scheduled class, which just happened to be gym for me, and those little thin shorts I wore were not much help in reducing the pain of those ten licks.

Mr. Abbott was not too happy with me that day.

Alice Robertson really was a beautiful school and I'm glad I did not cause it to burn down, which Mr. Abbott explained to me could very well have happened.

I didn't tell him I was just a poor, ignorant dupe of my "sinister" cousin's machinations. I don't imagine he would have believed me anyway.
