Still "Doin' It" after all these years (breathing)

James Emanual Buford Sandage
James Emanual Buford Sandage, 86, a resident of Raymore, MO., for the past 3 years, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 with his loving family at his side. He was born in Taberville, MO., on June 13, 1923, the first of two children to Wayne Sandage and Beatrice Anderson Sandage. He graduated from high school in Savanah, MO., and briefly attended the University of Missouri, before being drafted into the US Army where he served honorably in World War II and the Korean War. After resuming his studies at MU, he received BA degrees in agriculture and education, and a MA in administration. During this time he married Helen Arlene Hayes, a union which lasted for 58 years. He was principal of Pershing Elementary School and Central High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma from 1954 to 1970. He was vice principal of John Marshall High School, principal of Star Spencer High School, and principal of Taft Middle School in Oklahoma City before taking a position with CCOSA (the Cooperative Council of Oklahoma School Administrative), where he served until his retirement. He was also involved in civic organizations and continued his education throughout his adult life. He was a member of both the First Methodist Church of Muskogee and Wesely Methodist Church of Oklahoma City, where he taught Sunday school classes, and sang in the choir. He was preceded in death by his wife, and is survived by his sister, Kathleen Purvis; two sons, Steve and Robin; seven grandchildren, Adam, Sara Armstrong, Cori, Anne, Gus, Dan and Jack; one great granddaughter, Olivia Armstrong. Services will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24th at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 816-523-1234. Private burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Haiti Relief Fund in care of the American Red Cross. Arrangements: Park Lawn Funeral Home 816-523-1234.
